Be SPECIFIC

Don’t just say you “want to grow” your business. Be specific about what you want to accomplish with a measurable goal. "I want to increase business profits by 20%". Setting a clear goal helps you visualize the outcome you want and you’ll know when you’ve reached that milestone. 

Be Measurable

Setting measurable goals will enable you to set reachable milestones along the way, so you have a way to track your progress. For example, instead of “increase engagement on Instagram,” your measurable goal might be “elevate click-rates from 2% to 10%” This allows you to see if your plan is working and on track. 

Be Achievable

Success is most often achieved in increments. Everyone would love to see their revenues jump from $1 million to $20 million in one year, but picking an outrageous goal can set you up to fail. Pick an achievable goal that will be hard to reach, but not impossible and you’ll see better development. 

Be Realistic

Aim as high as you can, but be realistic about your resources, time and ability to invest what’s required to reach your goals. Your goals will be far more meaningful if they’re based in your reality right now. Adversity can be a catalyst for change, but if your plan is not realistic, you will find it difficult to gain traction.

Be Time Bound

Set a clear and reasonable time frame to accomplish your goal. Having a clear time frame is essential for checking your progress along the way to reaching your goal. If you don’t reach your goal within the time frame, there’s nothing wrong with course-correcting once you understand why things aren’t working.
